After months of investigation into a network in the South-East, the gendarmes succeeded Wednesday in catching red-handed a drug trafficker and a Lithuanian truck driver in the middle of a transaction, exchanging 70 kg of cocaine for 1.2 million euros in liquid.
Investigators had this “wholesaler” in their sights for a year and a half. Last Friday, they spotted the truck of a Lithuanian truck from the Netherlands returning to France, Colonel Dominique Lambert told a press conference in Marseille on Thursday.
Six other people arrested
They had been following him for some time and had identified that on the sidelines of his delivery route, he was making well-established hooks to deliver drugs in the Tarascon region, in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, while he was parked in an activity zone in Beaucaire (Gard), shortly before 6 a.m., “the head of the network came to see the driver and we witnessed the transaction live. », Continued the colonel.
The driver was immediately arrested with 1.25 million euros and the wholesaler with 60 loaves of cocaine. A delicate operation which mobilized some 300 gendarmes, investigators from the Marseille Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur research section, supported in particular by the GIGN. At the same time, six other people were arrested and placed in police custody in the region, including the partner of the head of the network.
