La Capitale-Nationale is pressing on the accelerator in its vaccination campaign. Given the huge craze for walk-in vaccination on Thursday, 20,000 additional doses of AstraZeneca vaccine will arrive in Quebec in the coming days and the CIUSSS will try out the experience of overnight vaccination.

“As we see that people aged 55 and over respond very well and want to be vaccinated with AstraZeneca, the CIUSSS has decided to do everything possible to increase the number of time slots. We have placed an order for 20,000 additional doses from the ministry, ”the region’s director of the vaccination campaign, Patricia McKinnon, said on Thursday afternoon.
These 20,000 vaccines will be distributed over the next seven days, with time slots being added to the Clic-Santé platform shortly.
- AstraZeneca beaches available for ages 55 and over:
- Fair center: Sunday, Monday, next Tuesday
- Laval University: Monday, Tuesday, next Wednesday
- Saint-Raymond: Tuesday
- Baie-Saint-Paul: Thursday
The experience of a night shift will also take place during the night from Saturday to Sunday at the ExpoCité clinic.
“We will see how it will go, will the answer be present? We really hope that people from midnight Saturday, and for 24 hours, the Fair Center will be permanently occupied, ”explains Mme McKinnon, describing the operation as “the electric shock the region needs to emerge from the pandemic.”
And no worry about the curfew, the SPVQ has already been notified of the operation, assures the CIUSSS. Proof of appointment will serve as a driving permit and confirmation of the appointment of the 2e dose will allow you to return home.
With these new availabilities, the CIUSSS estimates that it is reaching around its maximum vaccination capacity, considering the staff available. Currently, around 1,500 people are working on vaccination and the logistics surrounding it, which would allow around 8,000 people to be vaccinated daily.
However, the aim is to increase this capacity beyond 10,000 rapidly. The call for recruitment is therefore relaunched.
“We are going to mobilize the workers of the CIUSSS who would like to express an additional availability. […] The call is always present also to retired people, unemployed, people who have experience or an interest with the public, computer skills. We’re looking for everything, ”says Patricia McKinnon.
Success at the walk-in
As for the walk-in operation on Thursday morning, the CIUSSS qualifies it as a success across the board. All 1,200 coupons giving access to a dose during the day were gone in about 45 minutes.
At 4:30 am, the first people presented themselves at the CERVO Research Center in Quebec, in the Beauport sector, and at the Salle des Chevaliers de Colomb in L’Ancienne-Lorette, to obtain a place.
“It went very well, it’s a step in the right direction,” says Marc Bergeron, who arrived around 5:30 am Thursday morning, and who was among the first to receive the dose of the vaccine at 7:30 am. He preferred to show up on Thursday morning than to wait another three weeks.
Already about thirty cars lined up when he arrived; there were many more an hour later. “There are more people than the lines of the SQDC [Société québécoise du cannabis]He joked. “I am happy, reassured and ready to receive my second dose in four months,” said Mr. Bergeron at the exit, half an hour later.
With appointment from Saturday
The CIUSSS will continue with this method on Friday morning at the two sites of the CERVO Research Center of the IUSMQ and at the Hall of the Knights of Columbus in L’Ancienne-Lorette. However, the population will have to make an appointment on the Clic-Santé platform for the doses that will be available subsequently, i.e. from Saturday.
