alcohol consumption on public roads is now prohibited

The consumption of alcohol on public roads will be prohibited in the coming weeks in order to prevent any gathering and try to limit the circulation of the coronavirus epidemic, Jean Castex announced Thursday before the National Assembly.

“By prefectural decree, and in conjunction with the mayors, access to certain sites suitable for outdoor gatherings, such as quays, banks, squares, may be prohibited depending on local circumstances”, added the head of government, which specified the new restrictions enacted the day before by Emmanuel Macron.

In front of the deputies, the Prime Minister also condemned “without reserve” those not respecting “the sanitary rules”, targeting in particular the participants in recent “festive gatherings” or those refusing the wearing of the mask.

“Prosecutors will be asked to systematically prosecute perpetrators of recidivism involving the organization of clandestine events likely to endanger the lives of others,” added the Prime Minister.
