Out of shape physically, Jean-Kevin Augustin was sent back to the reserve team at FC Nantes until the end of the season. He will only have played 33 minutes in Ligue 1 with the Canaries.
For its first season at Nantes, Jean-Kevin Augustin will have seen more coaches (4) than he will have played in matches with the Canaries (3). The new FCN strongman, Antoine Kombouaré, has indeed made the decision to send the former PSG player to the reserve team until the end of the season, reports Ouest-France. This decision responds to the Nantes coach’s desire to tighten the professional group, and also concerns defender Thomas Basila, soon to be out of contract, and striker Bridge Ndilu.

Augustin is a huge flop that is confirmed. Arrived in Nantes to revive, after a loan to Leeds where he had (already) played only three matches, the former international hopefuls will therefore have spent only 33 minutes on the field, in three entries into play, granted by Christian Gourcuff. Since then, Patrick Collot, Raymond Domenech and Kombouaré have followed one another on the bench, and all have judged him out of form. Augustin was injured in December and never returned to the circuit. Domenech had even confided that he had “Not recognized” on arrival.
At 23, the future of this ex-great hope of French football is very uncertain. Augustin was crowned European U19 champion with the France team in 2016, a tournament where he finished top scorer and best player, after having formed a formidable duo with a certain Kylian Mbappé. Since then, after leaving PSG to find playing time in Leipzig, “JKA” has never confirmed his first good season in the Bundesliga (12 goals in 37 matches in 2017-2018). He had terminated his contract with the German club to engage until 2022 with Nantes, in order to revive. For the moment, it is a terrible failure.
One more humiliation for Domenech
