More than 400 people have now been directly or indirectly affected by the outbreak of the Méga Fitness Gym in Quebec. 36 outbreaks in other settings are linked to it.

The public health of the Capitale-Nationale unveiled in Wednesday afternoon its latest assessment of the outbreak, which would also have caused a death.

195 positive cases were declared following the outbreak of the Mega Fitness Gym.

Some of those people then smuggled the virus into 36 other settings, causing related outbreaks. 224 cases called “secondary” are confirmed in these other places having the gym as a common point.

Public health closed the establishment on Avenue St-Jean-Baptiste last Thursday because of its non-compliance with health measures.

CIUSSS inspectors had visited the gym the day before and had found “obvious health deficiencies”. In particular, it was criticized for a lack of symptom control at the entrance, a failure to respect the two-meter distance and inadequate personal protection.
