To speed up the pace, all citizens aged 65 and over who already have an appointment scheduled for May or June will receive a call from the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS to bring them forward in April. This measure would target nearly 10,000 citizens.
“Our goal is to vaccinate this age group earlier and bring all of these appointments back to April. From now on, people 65 and over can move their appointment. », Expressed the director of the vaccination campaign in Estrie, Jean Délisle, during the weekly press scrum.
In addition, starting Thursday, April 8, all people aged 60 and over will be able to make an appointment to be vaccinated.
Of the 54,000 doses of vaccine that Estrie is about to receive, there are 34,740 doses of Pfizer vaccine, 13,200 AstraZeneca, 4,600 Moderna and 2,100 will be reserved for community pharmacies.
All of these new doses will be administered during the weeks of April 5 and 12.
For the moment, only the vaccines of the companies Pfizer or Moderna are offered in vaccination centers by appointment.
As for the doses of the controversial AstraZeneca vaccine, they will be available without an appointment in six vaccination centers. To obtain this vaccine, people must obtain an access coupon available at the vaccination sites. The six sites in question are those located in Val-des-Sources, Cowansville, Granby, Lac-Mégantic, Magog and Sherbrooke.
It should be remembered that certain criteria are required with regard to AstraZeneca without an appointment: to be 55 years of age or over and not to be immunocompromised or immunosuppressed.
Telephone support has been set up by the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS to answer questions from citizens at 1 877-644-4545.
