An extremely rare version ofHarry potter and the sorcerer’s stone will be auctioned on May 5th in Staffordshire (UK). This first edition of JK Rowling’s novel dates from 1997 and has only been printed in 500 copies. It could be auctioned for nearly 30,000 pounds, or around 35,000 €, indicates Express & Star. The owners of the object, four British sisters, did not think it was of such value.

The novel “Had been collecting dust on a shelf for years, said the eldest child, 31 years old. […] When the Hansons auction house confirmed its authenticity to me and estimated its price, I couldn’t believe it ”. The mother of the four owners bought them the book when they were little, to encourage them to read. She had acquired it during a school party, paying no more than a pound (approximately € 1.20). A teacher, she died of breast cancer in 2005 at the age of 44.

Several typos

This copy of the first part of the saga will be auctioned as part of the first sale that the house Hansons devotes entirely to the world of Harry Potter. This is the tenth time in a year and a half that these specialists have offered for purchase a copy of the original edition ofHarry potter and the sorcerer’s stone. The previous works have found takers for sums ranging from 17,500 to 68,000 pounds (between 20,000 and 78,000 euros) depending on their condition.

As specified BFMTV, this edition is particularly appreciated by collectors, in particular because of its many typos. For example, a ” O “ at the word « Philosopher » on the back cover. The book is also signed Joanne Rowling, and not JK Rowling as on the following editions. The illustration on the back is also different: it represents some wizard, who is not a character in the novel.
