Zlatan Ibrahimovic to star in the next Asterix and Obelix

From football fields to movie sets: football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be showing in Guillaume Canet’s next film “Asterix and Obelix: the Middle Empire”, he announced Thursday, jointly with other headliners, on his Instagram account.

At 39, the Swedish striker from AC Milan will play a Roman, Caius Antivirus. The announcement was made without further details on his Instagram account via the publication of a photo with the name of his character.

Like him, other stars have published at the same time on their respective Instagram accounts their future role, whether it is a pillar of the Uderzo and Goscinny comic book or a new character.

For this fifth film, Guillaume Canet will play Asterix and Gilles Lellouche will be his faithful friend Obélix. Pierre Richard has announced that he will play Panoramix.

Marion Cotillard, companion in the city of Guillaume Canet, will be Cleopatra, a role previously played by Monica Bellucci. Vincent Cassel was chosen to play César.

Belgian singer Angèle will play Falbala and comedian Chicandier will be the next performer of Ordralfabétix, the fishmonger of the village of diehard warriors. José Garcia will change his cap to no longer be Couverdepus (Asterix at the Olympic Games) but Biopix. Comedians McFly and Carlito will play Radius and Cubitus and Audrey Lamy will play Bonemine.

The shooting of this film, which was to be done partly in China, had to be postponed to spring 2020 due to a health crisis. With a budget of over 60 million euros, it is already shaping up to be one of the biggest French productions in the months to come.
