American singer Stacey Kent, Thomas Dutronc, trip-hop group Morcheeba: the Marseille Jazz des Cinq Continents festival hopes to hold an edition in July.
Proof of their desire to hold this 2021 edition at all costs, the team unveiled to the press this Thursday the program with French headliners: Thomas Dutronc, Christophe Chassol, but also international with the Franco-Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf , the British of Morcheeba, the American singer Stacey Kent, the Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen announced in trio or Ayo, German singer and songwriter of Nigerian origin. They also promise a surprise closing concert on July 25 in the gardens of the Palais Longchamp, the festival’s base camp.
Regarding health rules, the organizers remain in the dark on the instructions for the moment but they are betting on gauges of less than 5,000 people, all seated and in the open air. “Nobody knows yet what additional cost, what device we will have to imagine to welcome the public“, worries the director.
For this event, funded 50% by subsidies and 50% by ticketing revenues in particular, these reduced gauges will inevitably have a significant impact. During its last edition, in 2019, the festival welcomed 27,000 spectators.
