You can follow Cole Caufield's debut with the Rocket on Friday 7 p.m. with RDS and RDS Direct.

Laval Rocket head coach Joël Bouchard has confirmed that forward Cole Caufield will make his debut with the Canadiens’ school club on Friday against the Toronto Marlies.

The 15th overall pick in the 2019 draft joined the Rocket at the end of his season with the University of Wisconsin Badgers. Bouchard was keen to keep a few cards in his game while he was careful not to reveal who the 20-year-old striker will play on the ice with.

“I have a plan, as always, it’s my job. If I didn’t have one, I wouldn’t be doing my job. The reason I’m not revealing it is that I can still change between now and match day. ”

“Like everyone else, we’re going to keep our cards up our sleeves. Toronto looks at Twitter to find out and they do the same, ”Bouchard said Thursday by videoconference.

If he did not specify Caufield’s line mates, the Rocket head coach was careful to mention that he will see playing time on the power play.

“We place the players so that they can develop in situations to play for professionals. He’s definitely a power play, so I’m not going to put him on the fourth line with little playing time. ”

“You have to be smart and I’m not going to put everyone aside because Caufield is coming. There is a process in hockey and I don’t mind if you are a first round pick, I treat you the same as everyone else. ”

“For sure, a player who arrives with certain skills, I’m not going to start saying that he won’t play on the power play. There is no mind game here and he will be on the power play, which he must be, ”he confirmed.

Caufield finished his second season in the Big-10 with an impressive 30 goals and 22 assists for 52 points in 31 games.

Released to the Laval Rocket, goaltender Charlie Lindgren should see some action this weekend. Bouchard has not confirmed if he will be in action on Friday.

The Rocket will face the second formation of the Canadian division on Friday. The Habs school club leads the standings with 36 points in just 24 games while their next rivals have 21 points in 20 games.
