“The UEFA Executive Committee has decided to allow up to five substitutions in UEFA EURO 2020 as well as in the 2021 finals and UEFA Nations League relegation matches, in line with the temporary amendments to the Law 3 of the IFAB Laws of the Game, wrote the European body in a press release. As the reasons which led to the rule of five substitutions remain valid in a context where the calendars of national and international competitions continue to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and given that this rule already applies to matches of qualification for the World Cup, which will be played from March 2021 to March 2022, the Executive Committee has decided to extend the amendment to UEFA EURO 2020, which will be played in June / July 2021, to the finals of the ‘UEFA Nations League, which will be played in October 2021, and the UEFA Nations League relegation matches, which will take place in March 2022. “
As a reminder, the European Championship will begin on Friday 11 June with the match between Italy and Turkey in Rome. France will enter the running on Tuesday, June 15 against Germany, in Munich.
