Xiaomi has announced its upcoming arrival in the electric car market. The smartphone manufacturer says a little more about its first model, and in particular announces its price. It will not be low cost but promises to be competitive all the same.
The smartphone giant Xiaomi recently confirmed its entry into the electric car market. The Chinese manufacturer also announces that it will be called Mi Car, like some smartphones of the brand.
Xiaomi’s investment plan is simply colossal. To launch into the ‘zero emission’ car market, the brand will in fact invest 10 billion dollars in the coming years.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun spoke on Chinese social network Weibo and gave details about the Mi Car. Thus, we learn that the price of it will be between 100,000 and 300,000 yuan. Converted into our currency, this gives a wide range between 12,800 and 38,600 euros.
The first information that this gives us is that there will be a significant disparity between the finishes. The options and probable multiple battery configurations will also explode the price of the high-end version, which will be offered for three times the base price.
Also in Europe?
At this stage, we do not know if the Mi Car will arrive in Europe, or when. But its base price will certainly be more expensive than those announced for the Chinese market. By adding the various taxes, Xiaomi’s car should be more around 20,000 euros.
Obviously, this information will have time to evolve over the design of the Mi Car. This should also materialize in the form of an SUV, without knowing the size.
