An adventure and platform game
It wasn’t a big secret: in May 2020, Microids announced a publishing contract with IMPS for the development of a The Smurfs video game. However, the collaboration now seems well advanced as the first details are falling: The Smurfs: Mission Malfeuille will be released on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and will be available before the end of the year.
This project will be developed by the teams of the Lyon studio OSome Studio, which we know for the latest titles Asterix & Obelix XXL, not always convincing. The Smurfs: Mission Malfeuille will take the form of a adventure / platform game where the little creatures will once again have to face the terrible Gargamel and thwart his Machiavellian plans to save their village and the entire forest.
Five Smurfs games in preparation
Although we have no video and only a visual, the press release tells us something else: The Smurfs: Mission Malfeuille will not be the only title adapted from the comic since four more The Smurfs video games are in the works.
So we will have a total of five games that “Will be phased out over the next five years” and who will explore different genres. We do not yet know what will be the exploited fields but we imagine that we could venture on games more focused on the platform, others which will play in 2D or 3D. Anyway, what we know is that the distribution of all these titles will be ensured by Microids Distribution France, the new subsidiary of the publisher.
See you at the end of 2021 for the release of The Smurfs: Mission Malfeuille on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Other adaptations are currently in preparation at Microids, notably with Goldorak and Tintin, which could be talked about again soon.
