WHO: Morocco, the most advanced country in anti-covid vaccination in Africa

Morocco is the most advanced country in the vaccination against the coronavirus in Africa, announced Thursday, the World Health Organization.

While the African continent is lagging behind in the vaccination of its population, particularly because of a lack of financial means and supply problems linked to strong pressure from developed countries, Morocco has distinguished itself in its vaccination campaign by being the most advanced country on the African continent.

“Morocco is the most advanced country in vaccination in Africa”, welcomed Dr. Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti, WHO regional director for Africa, during a press conference organized this Thursday by the Organization.

According to the latest figures announced by the Ministry of Health in its report delivered on Wednesday, a total of 4,410,023 people have received a first dose of vaccine and 4,038,083 others are considered to be fully vaccinated against covid-19.

This news comes as Morocco has recorded in recent weeks a slowdown in its vaccination campaign, particularly because of supply problems among vaccine producers.

India, the leading vaccine producer country, recently stopped producing this serum for foreign countries, favoring its population estimated at more than one billion inhabitants. The country is also facing a very important second wave of the pandemic and a reluctance of its population.
